It's crazy hot today. I've had an especially tough week at work so I chose to just relax in the comfort of my home and watch YouTube videos.
The game Black Myth Wukong was just released a few days ago and wow! The story is super complex but awesome.
The lore is hard to understand, but this video does a great job of explaining in terms an American like myself can understand.
Here's a nugget: "He chose bros before hoes" when recapping a story about vengeance from a failed romance.
The game has 2 endings (so far). If you speed run through it, you get the "bad" ending where you repeat the mistake of the past and be perpetually enslaved by fate. But if you play all the side quests and stories, you get the "good" ending where you break free of the cycle, thus obtaining freedom from the heaven's control. In a way, reaching enlightenment, thus winning a bet your mentor made years ago in heaven. In the bad ending, you catch a glimpse of his disappointment as he places the crown (that reinstates control) on your head.
This story is mind-bending and the theme of true freedom is especially relevant to today's world. We all want to break free of the cycle (of work, eat, sleep, work again), but no matter how much we try, we are locked in by the false promise of choice & freedom.
Is the pursuit of happiness true freedom? Or is it the crown we seek that perpetually enslaves us?
I can't wait for this game to be released on PS5.
